transit valley is the debut release by joe coghill, a multi-disciplinary artist, musician and experimental publisher based in edinburgh. his practice incorporates sound, video, performance, social sculpture, facilitation and media distribution. borrowing from multiple spheres of influence, his scattered output operates from a liminal position. coghill works in an improvised and often haphazard way, incorporating disparate field recordings, modular synthesis and other sonic ambiences to create unpredictable and ephemeral multi-layer audio-visual performances. alongside this coghill has been producing music recreationally in his various bedroom studios over the past 14 years

mihai popescu kicks off a new label, steppin motion records, with two of his own brilliant tracks. the romanian artist has been a key part of the scene since 2012, releasing on labels like soulsity, rora and bass culture. he has a slick electronic sound that is here for all to here on these two new cuts.

steppin motion is a record label based in paris and managed by swoop. it aims to promote music as an art, as something beautiful that gets your body and soul in motion. this first ep is in two parts, showcasing both sides of the label: the first part is the most dance oriented, whereas the second part will be more soul / beauty oriented. the amazing artwork comes from vesod, who is an italian street-artist painter from turin.

selfsuficient is first and is ten minutes of slippery house music with lovely chords and melodies all making for a warm and infectious groove. it is colourful, loose and rhythmic stuff that oozes a futuristic sense of soul. neasteptat is deeper, with rubbery drums and woodpecker like sounds all weaving round each other to cast a spell on those who hear it.

these are two terrific tracks that connoisseurs of minimal house are going to lap up.

joseph white aka joe white is a foundation of jamaican music. he started singing in the late 50 s and did his first recordings for duke reid in the early 60 s. while disco sound was bumping into jamaican people mind, he formed the group roots, trunks & branches to release several tracks on the label splendour heights. “rising / power disco power” is taken from the album the weak will be strong released in 1978. a beautiful extended disco reggae tune mainly played by joe white (drums, piano, vocal). this issue was fully remastered on a disco 45 vinyl record to give respect to the dynamic. on the other side you will get the reggae lovers roots rock tune “ain t no way / the monster”, an extended version with deep dubwise. you ve got it!

we are happy to welcome two new artists to rose records on our first real split record. rose 12 brings two pieces from chassé. the duo from belgium adds round bass and piano to send two deep and warm tracks into the game. on the other side, which is rose 13, you find two more crazy tracks which unite funky vocals with guitars – both from gledd a recent nice and surprising discovery for us from italy. we feel that the combination of both sides represent rose perfectly – a deep and funky mix.

marseille-based producer grant returns to his self-released white label series with an ever more expansive ep of deep, rolling house. with a firm grasp for 80’s chicago and detroit house tased with 90’s deep house tropes, grant004 finds him on deepest ever form, with swirling luscious pads, snippet vocals and thudding percussion sinking us further down into the depths.

next up on baum is no other than mike schommer of deepchord fame who is back after a 15 year break, with a three track ep. his first release after his break was out on steve o sullivans mosaic records, and now his second one is released on baum records. mike s sound does not need any introduction, the music speaks for it self, but one thing to say, dub techno does not get any better than this!

farron gets back on shaw cuts with his fourth record, invincible shaolin a tale of double-dealing, rivalry, royalty and bad blood. manchu general pus evil quest to eradicate the shaolin tradition unfolds, cunningly pitting north and south shaolins against each other. spring break ya neck opens the clash with its rhythmic shifts and whirling synth pads. the northern masters prevail. after pus henchmen secretly kill the southern shaolin, the general blames the masters from the north, unleashing chaos. cosmicaph restores order, its pounding drums and floating melodies giving new strength to the southern shaolin. revenge must be taken. to prepare for conquer, the southern master sends three of his disciples to three masters to learn their secret weapons. sir hatch sets the pace with rolling punches, dirty synths and sharp percussion as the three disciples transform into lethal fighting machines. just before the final encounter between the shaolin, leibniz lands on the scene with his fresh interpretation of spring break ya neck, revealing to both schools that they have been deceived. joining forces, north and south battle the general and his men, led by leibnizs funky drum patterns and turbulent synth action. and the shaolin spirit lives on

born in cameroon, vicky began banging the drums at the age of 9. by 13 he had moved onto bass and within a couple of years he was playing every night from 10pm to 5am in the castel douala cabaret. at the age of 19 vicky moved to paris to study banking and commerce and cram in even more music. he took classes at Épinay-sur-seine conservatoire music school and it was here that he met bandmates of his dikalo project. word spreads and he soon becomes one of the most sought after bass players in the afro arena. his session work features on many scenes stars, manu dibango, eko tala am, kemayo, sammy massamba, toto guillaume and many more. a chance meeting with the gibson brothers also see him play on two of their hit albums. in the 80s vicky moved to the us for spell and excels as a session bassist and touring musician. we pick up the story in 1981. with his stature as a musician and bass player riding high he takes a detour to nigeria to record with the afrodisia label in lagos. the thank u mamma album is the result. it is repressed for the first time, here in 2018 on the revitalised afrodisia label. musical proceedings open up with the heartfelt ode to his mother thank u mamma, smooth pop meets afrobeat boogie. marina driv slows things down with its smoldering jazz. side two opens with its not serious a catchy vocal number underpinned with funky guitars and striding basslines. stormy rain is lazy guitar jazz swansong. we close off the album with the ever so funky you. slick funk grooves powered along with a dose of slap bass. as a side note vicky actually plays left handed but with a upside down right handed bass. this upside-down precursor making his effortless slap playing even more impressive. vicky went on to record a two other albums and still tours and plays as an ever-in-demand session musician.

one of the biggest sampling innovators and the pioneer of electronic music in eastern europe max vincent initially played in belgrade s max & intro band whose first single: -we design the future- from 1985 remained one of the most wanted electronic records from this part of europe . . in 2015, discom has released -the future has designed us- a lifework compilation of previously unreleased songs from 1984 to 2002. the new archival release max vincent- beograd is a lost lp album which consists of 8 previously unreleased tracks made in period 1986-1999 which max wanted to use in a single concept album.

glyn bigga bush has been producing electronic and sample-based music since the early 90s when he formed rockers hi fi, going on to release numerous albums. since the turn of the century he has produced and dj d as biggabush as well as various side projects such as lightning head (sonar kollektiv), the dandelion set (buried treasure) and the magic drum orchestral (tru thoughts). biggas latest project sunken foal stories represents a departure from much of his other work in that it is not primarily based on beats. instead, his working method was to go with fascinating samples, accidental juxtapositions and irregular loops inspired by pioneers of sound such as faust and the audio experiments of julian house as well as early stereo test records, soundtracks and library music.

sth. notional was a short-lived project that manifested in one album back in 1992, originally released on japanese label zero corporation. yawn yawn yawn focused primarily on various balearic-friendly mixes of the title track and some other scattered pieces, and now they ve received a much-needed spruce up from archeo recordings. the dream. another reality versions of yawn yawn yawn are laid back to the extreme, revolving around delicate instrumentation and occasional threads of speech and singing. there s a mellow beat behind the g-tar cannyon mix, and the thankful mix brings a weightier groove to the table. with the other tracks adding to this utterly smooth, early 90s shake, and spread across three discs, this is the holy grail reissue collectors have been waiting for.

emotional rescue begins the first in a series of reissues looking at the music of guitarist carl weingarten and his multiphase records label, starting at his highly sought after collaborate album with walter whitney, dreaming in colors. with an early interest in photography and super 8 film leading to a degree in cinema production, weingarten s other, self-taught, love was the slide guitar. taking its blues roots and merging them with his visual arts background created a unique painting in sound style of playing.

proper mixed bag this one soothing, grinding, banging, and disturbing! new york city by way of miami, alex suarez delivers his debut lp the eight track autogolpe for l.i.e.s. autogolpe, is a term for military coup initiated by a dictator to take control of an existing government and suarez uses this loose idea to create the sonic equivialent of the pain, strife, oppression, isolation, and joyous freedom associated with said act. musically he expands on his prior releases for bank and primitive languages as heavy industrialized sonic beatings sit next to somber passages, oil drum slow beat tribal clangers provide a back drop for screams shooting out of the dark. musically it paints a distorted picture of world in decline, an exile from another land and arrivial to anothers in chaos or the clinging hope of something better on the other side.

the next yoshitoshi classic is here and it s a heavy one - dino lenny s -i feel stereo.- anyone on the scene in 2001, when this monster tune was originally released, remembers its pulsing rhythms and ear-catching vocal hook. seventeen years later, -i feel stereo- is back with three remixes from some of the finest artists around. steve lawler (working here as lawler) has crafted a badass, bassline-driven house track that pummels with all the energy of the original. steve continues his reign as as key innovator in dance music, modernizing this classic with unquestionable finesse. the red axes boys deliver their silky smooth brand of minimal house with a variety of distorted arpeggio riffs, futuristic chimes, and other left-field sounds that make their remix truly unique. it s another ace production from the israeli duo. last but certainly not least, up-and-comer frankyeffe, who delivered the goods on his collaborative splitting minds ep with loco & jam last fall, serves up some impeccably produced techno for big, loud rooms. the italian phenom s mix is absolute savagery. of course, it wouldn t be a yoshi classic pack without a remastered original mix.

the italian dj and producer viels is the perfect example of a promising artist who has earned his stripes in the scene. his first contribution to dynamic reflection was a single track on a va two years ago, then a solo ep on the nursery last year and now it s time for his first well-earned vinyl called distrophism. although his sound has matured over the years, he has never compromised as far as his straight forward sound goes. circular, the a1, is the best possible example of that. the continuous drive keeps it going for well over seven minutes, without ever becoming superficial or dull. the b-side extends to other sides of his musical spectrum by making use of more drone-like, hypnotic elements. beside these three convincing originals, spanish heavyweight svreca jumps in for a remix of circular, completing the variance of styles. needless to say, this new release, proves that viels as an artist and this ep in particular, are forces to be reckoned with.

insurmountable heat sliding through the cracks no doubt, uks sentry imprint is at it again. dj youngstas vinyl label is continuing its high-pressure output on dangerous 12inch records. routinely adding some of the worlds finest bass music artists to its roster, now welcoming none other than gramz to its venerable discography. the notorious alter ego of sleeper, highly respected producer and label operator (crucial rec.), takes a turn for the more aggressive & experimental side in dubstep territory firing up dance floors with its in-your-face attitude and hip hop inclined slack. unadulterated gangster business, stirring the melting pot of forward-minded sound system music.

the water surely is greener on the other side. susans 5th release marks perhaps the biggest step towards the so-called life of susan. speed and depth transform into ritualistic whistles, strange questions may be asked, but the summery seasons will blossom whilst binge eating kebabs with that wild seasoning. susan wont create her own energy drink, but the likes of dj swagger, axefield, dj windows xp and joakim hellgren sure have spiced up the spectrum of reason on this one.

the boys from politics of dancing records launch their new imprint, p.o.d crxss. it s a label of collaborations, of paths crossed, it s about friendship, having fun making music with each other. the first release is understandably done by parisian artists, as djebali, franck roger and politics of dancing have been long time friends, deejaying together for years. the result is two quality deep house tracks, cut for dance floors, one track pressed on each side of the vinyl for maximum dynamics and dj friendly use. friends, music and party, thats what it s all about.

three years since profane’s seminal album v.illan mills was recorded for inperspective and it’s long overdue that he returns to the label. this canadian native’s unique style that somehow fuses the hip hop sensibilities of j.dilla, the jazz/funk ideologies of danny breaks and the experimental truth of squarepusher has been a breath of fresh air in recent years on the underground d&b scene and these two new cuts from him are no exception. the experimentally epic breakbeat off tempo monstrosity of drughmada is a heady, giddy tapestry of beats and breaks with a sleazy sample and panic led overtones. west newton views is a darker more minimal affair. a clunky, dubstep vibe which maintains moody intensity throughout. tense and suspenseful. the other side sees the triumphant return of rome’s lynch kingsley. this young, precocious talent has been a good friend to the label for a number of years and after making waves with his debut eden ep it was only a matter of time before his return. we are pleased to present void , a dark journey through the breakbeat, sci-fi escapism of early 90 s d&b which in time develops into a deep, break laden workout with gorgeous synths and fantasy atmospheres. a joy to behold.
